The Church of St Thomas International describe themselves as a Liberal Catholic part
of the one Christian church, the Mystical Body of Christ and
acknowledge the Christ as founder, living head, and eternal high
priest.
It is a church where there is an intellectual and religious freedom and
a natural balance between ceremonial worship, devotional aspiration,
scientific and mystic thought. It uses a revised liturgy in the
language of the country, a liturgy devised to sound a note of joyous
and uplifting aspiration.
The church has one religious order: the Order of St Thomas, which is a
religious order in the Liberal Catholic Church tradition, open to all
seekers and reflecting an attitude of devotion to the Trinity as well
as a respect for mankind, made in the image of God. Sacraments are
available on request with no 'barriers' around the altar. The members
are the backbone of the order. A non-residential religious order, the
members and oblates hold secular work and come from all walks of life.
The church has a Chaplaincy program and its chaplains assist the
emergency services on the street for death notifications, suicidal
persons, domestic situations or any call where they think the Chaplains
may be of use. The Chaplains are on call 24 hours a day. Citizens in
conflict or need are also referred to the Chaplains for aid when
appropriate. The chaplains offer comfort and counseling assistance to
anyone, and are considered inter-denominational, interfaith helpers
seeking to serve. There is no evangelism or proselytizing pressure; the
chaplaincy is freely given.
Holy Orders are open to all, regardless of gender, marital status, or
sexual orientation.
The church has an online seminary but recognizing the importance of valid of Holy
Orders for the administration of the sacraments only undertake ordinations in person.
The Church of St Thomas International is a member of the Independent Catholic Churches Council and its clergy members of the Independent Liberal Catholic Fellowship.
